A flexible changeover, rotary transfer machine enables higher levels of accuracy to be met and combines production sequences into a 'single-hit' cycle for large volume or batcgh production.

Developed to meet the future demands of automotive, medical, high pressure systems, and mechanical and electronic sectors of industry, the Mikron NRG-50 rotary transfer machine from Mikron Machining Technology Agno, Switzerland enables higher levels of accuracy to be met with the combination of a multitude of production sequences into a 'single-hit' cycle. Unlike traditional transfer machine technology, the Mikron NRG-50 is equally at home working on continuous production, as well as medium batches of family type components due to its highly flexible changeover capability and modular construction. A pre-requisite of the 12-station rotary transfer machine design was the establishment of high orders of mechanical accuracy, performance and flexibility achieved from the up to 140 CNC axes and 30 NC controlled machining heads able to provide up to five axes of movement.

It is capable of four-axis interpolation for milling cycles and is able to carry up to 96 tools with automatic tool changing if required.

Due to the construction and incorporation of thermal stabilisation techniques the Mikron NRG-50 has an accuracy capability of +/-4 micron and a deviation tolerance of +/-1.5 micron at a measuring diameter on the rotary table of 1400mm.

Up to three NC heads can be operated simultaneously at each machining station and the machine is able to turn by rotating the workholding collets at up to 6,000 rev/min.

It is also able to deep-hole drill, mill, thread cut, deburr and even carry out measurement, subassembly and testing sequences under its 'one-hit' production strategy, while meeting high levels of process security.

The machine will accept cubic parts with an edge length of 50mm or be fed from bar up to 35mm diameter with a part length of 70mm.

Control is through Bosch Indramotion MTX with an option of Fanuc 30i.

Software includes 3D simulation and CAM technology with unlimited program size.
