Tiny solenoid valves handle large flows

Valuable savings in size and weight are possible in equipmen that uses the GS02 80 bi-directional solenoid valve from Sterling Hydraulics. Although this compact high-performance valve has a body less than 100mm high, it can handle flow rates as high as 58 litres/min, while offering minimal leakage in the closed position - features which make it an ideal choice for even the most demanding applications. Designed for use with mineral oils or synthetic oils with lubricating properties, GS02 80 solenoid valves provide normally closed operation, blocking flow in both directions when the solenoid is de-energised, and allowing bi-directional flow when it is energised.

Typical response time for opening and closing is just 40mS, and leakage in the closed state is less than 0.33ml/min.

Standard GS02 80 valves are suitable for use at working pressures of up to 210 bar, and a high-pressure version, the GS02 81, is also available for use at up to 350 bar.

Both types incorporate thermal relief, which is factory-set to operate at 36 bar above their rated maximum working pressure.

All valves in the Sterling Hydraulics GS02 80 range use waterproof, hermetically sealed coils which require no O ring, ensuring that they are suitable for use in the toughest industrial environments.

In addition, the coils can be physically reversed with no effect on performance, which simplifies installation, and allows users a choice of positions for the coil connections.

To maximise their versatility, GS02 80 bi-directional solenoid valves can be supplied with manual override facilities, either for local operation, or for remote operation via a cable.

They are also offered with a wide choice of AC and DC coil operating voltages, with the option of integral diodes on DC coils, and can be supplied with all standard types of connection.

Sterling Hydraulics is a leading developer and manufacturer of cartridge valves and manifold systems for hydraulic applications.

The company owns and operates design and manufacturing facilities in Somerset, England and in Illinois, USA, which allow it to provide a fast, expert response to its customers' requirements, based on competitively priced standard and fully customised products.
