Single and double acting rams

Additions to hydraulic equipment include single and double acting rams with a range of mounting options, compact metric block cylinders and an extended range of clamps for 360-degree holding.

The latest additions to the Spencer Franklin range of hydraulic equipment from WDS include single and double acting rams with a range of mounting options, compact metric block cylinders and an extended range of Hydraclamps for 360-degree holding. For customers with small to medium sized metalworking and assembly operations, the additions offer increased flexibility and power in a broader range of applications. The 20 single acting rams provide stroke lengths up to 180cm and holding forces up to 8.6tonne; they can be used in fixed workholding assemblies or in free-moving applications.

The rams are available as basic versions for operations such as adjusting rollers and controlling light metal presses.

In addition, pin mounted variations are included for applications as diverse as opening and closing oven doors to controlling the movement of military tank visors.

For applications where precision movement and a higher load capacity is required, WDS has developed double acting rams.

Each unit can be supplied with a range of mounting options allowing for attachments to mechanical assemblies and fixtures, via trunion blocks, spherical eye mounts or bushed pin collar arrangements.

Mounting flexibility is increased by the use of front flanges on the ram bodies, and all models can be used in push and pull operations.

Single and double acting metric block cylinders, with stroke lengths from 8 to 125mm, have been introduced to cater for a broad range of hydraulically operated workholding, closing, opening, lifting applications and clamping systems.

Holding forces are from 10 to 275kN and they are for applications where maximum power is required from the smallest design.

Compatible with a broad range of boosters, electric and hand pumps, the units are for pressing, punching, clamping, push and pull operations in assembly and fabrication applications.

The extended cube profile of the metric block cylinders facilitates secure fitting by allowing mounting holes to be placed vertically and horizontally through the flat surfaces of the main body of the cylinder.

A series Hydraclamps has also been introduced that allow users to hold objects for 360-degree access in assembly, inspection or repair operations.

The most compact unit in the range uses a smaller cam locking principle than previous designs, making it suitable for worktop applications such as electronics assembly and circuit board inspection.

For heavier applications in the transport industry, such as engine maintenance and installation, WDS supplies a 700kg version with a pedestal mount that uses less floor space than other designs.
